This week is a favorite for sure. So many stunning images, it is hard to choose just a select few. Week 5’s theme was “shadows”. There were so many ways to interpret this theme and you all definitely brought some amazing images to the table. As mentioned last week, this month we are going to do things a little different. We will still have our normal “eye candy”, but we will also have 4 images that were chosen as “best of the best” with the reasoning behind the choice. We will continue this throughout the month of February. (and maybe more if you all like this direction) Let’s get started with all these amazing photographs:

This image is just fantastic. One, most probably don’t know that balloons show color in their shadows, so thanks to Emily for sharing that with us. Two, the setting and placement of this photo is great. The lighting is perfect on the balloons and the little boy standing in the window’s shadow is just right. Also, love how you can tell how happy the little boy is, even in his shadow. The colors are bright, yet moody, and the photo really draws you in. Congratulations Emily on a brilliant submission.

Fell in love with this photo as soon as I saw it. The light is perfect. The way the light is coming in and beaming on the mother’s glow is sweet perfection. The arrows on the curtains really add to the dimension of the photo and the rays on the mother’s body are almost mimicking the arrows. Such a beautiful capture. Congratulations Katie on a photo that not only captures the beauty in breastfeeding, but the idea that you shouldn’t have to hide in the shadows to do so. Bravo.

Love, love, love this photo! The texture is what first drew the eyes in. Then the shadows mixed with this color palette are just beautiful. Love how the light source from the sun has a bright, but subtle beam that comes in and draws you right to his face. The direction of the airplane too, to the sun, is fantastic. A beautiful photo all around. Congratulations Andrea!

Manuel ValleWeek 5/52: Shadows
There is one window in my house where the sunlight comes in perfectly through the blinds and on to my figures in the afternoon. Today I tried to focus the light on the two most imortant parts of this figure, on her eyes and on the tip of her blade. With shadows surrounding those two focal points, I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve worn this necklace during many infinite moments in my life, including my entire pregnancy (my wedding rings dangled from it when my fingers became too swollen to wear them), her birth, & through the dark postpartum depression that enveloped me.
Today, she asked to wear it & I took it off for the first time in I don’t know how long & she laid down in this beautiful light in the kitchen & I think my heart may have exploded.

I walked past and saw this sweet moment. That light! The connection between my girl and her puppy! The shredded cheese she’s using to “train” her puppy. Wait, what? On a side note, cleaning that glass is an exercise in futility.

This is Molly, our crazy 6 year old Australian Shepherd, who is impossible to tire out. She is an enthusiastic fetcher and is convinced that anyone that visits our home has come for the sole purpose of throwing the frisbee or the ball for her. 🙂

Life in 52/Week 5 (Shadows):
Late at night I was still reading while my husband was already asleep I realized that my bedside lamp produced a lovely shadow on this little statue – two lovers that I bought for our first wedding anniversary. I only needed to a adjust it a little bit, to let the shadow stick out a bit more.

Wk 5/52 Shadows.
This was a color image, but I covered it to black and white, and used some dodge and burn and a overlay filter. Her eye lashes the shadow they cast were amazing, this was from a runway fashion show.

Wow, thank you so much for choosing my image as #2! This is such a huge compliment :D! I almost didn’t post the image because of the subject matter, but I’m really glad that I did.
