What another amazing week! We did something a little different this week with our theme “life is like a song” – we based our photos off of lyrics to songs. What a fun week it was! We saw soooo many great submissions! And, we learned a lot of new songs that we didn’t know before, thank you for that! For the first few weeks of the Life in 52 2016 photo project, we will spotlight more “eye candy”. It was tough this week to choose as there were so many great photos. Such talent!! swoon! Keep up the great work! Let’s get started…

Week 3 – Life is Like a Song
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.

3/52 Life is like a song
“And at once I knew I was not magnificent
Strayed above the highway aisle
(Jagged vacance, thick with ice)
I could see for miles, miles, miles”
The lyrics are straight up poetry, but it’s more about a mood the entirety of this song creates. A quiet and content moment.

Week 3 {Life is like a song}
Time goes by
No time to cry
Life’s you and I
Alive, today
Love lift us up where we belong…
– Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker

And you’ll fly little bird
And you’ll soar into this worldAnd I know little bird
That you’ll grow little bird
And you’ll show us what you’re made ofAnd all you need to know
Is I’ll be here to hold you
Along the wayAnd all you need to know
Is I’ll be here to hold you
Along the way
You’re a tough little bird
won’t give up little bird
and I’m so glad to meet you
Little bird

Life is Like a Song
an excerpt from “Shed a Little Light” – James Taylor
Let us turn our thoughts today
to Martin Luther King
and recognize that there are ties between us
all men and women living on the Earth
Ties of hope and love,
sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
in our desire to see the world become
a place in which are children can grow
free and strong
I was going to use lyrics from Sting and find a field of gold, but then this happened. I had my camera at school to take a portrait of a new student who just arrived from Lithuania. It was silent reading time and I looked over and saw this group clustered around our globe. My new student had been pointing out Lithuania to several classmates and pretty soon there was a mob, all pointing out their own homelands. I teach fourth grade at a school right next door to a university and we get many, many students from all over the world. In my class of 19 students, I have children from Egypt, Serbia, Laos, Thailand, Mexico, India, and Lithuania. I just love me job.

Oh geeze, today after nap…
sweetest.moment.ever.
my mommy heart is full…
Skinamarink a doo,
I love you
I love you in the morning
and in the afternoon,
I love you in the evening
and underneath the moon!
So, Skinamarinky dinky dink
Skinamarink a doo,
I love you

3/52 – “Life is like a song”
“The Milky Way upon the heavens
Is twinkling just for you
And Mr. Moon he came by
To say goodnight to you”

Week 3 {life is a song}
Oh darling, don’t you ever grow up
Don’t you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don’t you ever grow up
Don’t you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
Won’t let nobody hurt you
Won’t let no one break your heart
And even though you want to, please try to never grow up
Oh, don’t you ever grow up
Oh, never grow up, just never grow up
( Taylor Swift)

3/52 Life in a Song – Love me like you do
Last night I lay in bed so blue,
Cause I realized the truth, they can’t love me like you
I tried to find somebody new
Baby they ain’t got a clue, can’t love me like you

Boy Meets Horn, Duke Ellington
You’ll hear a symphony in blue
Whenever boy meets horn
You’ll hear a melody so new
When boy meets horn…
You’ll hear a strange and tender
Whenever boy meets horn
And when the music in the moonlight
Greets the morn
You’ll see him standing way above
The crowd and rockin’ on a cloud
Whenever boy meets horn

Life in 52: 3/52 {Life is Like a Song}
And who do you think you are?
Runnin’ ’round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You’re gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don’t come back for me
Who do you think you are?

2/52 – Life is like a song
I’ve written and re-written this multiple times now! I should have picked an easier song
I thought about many songs that I wanted use because I love music ~ It speaks to my soul and has comforted me through life. But the song wasn’t mine to pick – this is the one that played the loudest! ♫ I mentioned recently that became a single Mother and, of course, my children have had a really tough time with the new transition. My daughter especially. Some days are tougher than others, but I know things will get better with time…
“Hold, hold on, hold onto me
‘Cause I’m a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold, hold on, hold onto me
‘Cause I’m a little unsteady
A little unsteady”
“If you love me, don’t let go
Whoa, if you love me, don’t let go”

3/52: Life is like a song
“But can you fake it, for just one more show?
And what do you want?
I want to change”
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
~ Smashing Pumpkins
It’s difficult having an “invisible” disability. Everyone expects normalcy, they expect you to be just like the other kids emotionally and socially. The amount of self-regulation that goes on daily for him is astounding, so it is no surprise to me that at the end of most days his self-control slips and he lets all of that pressure out.

I hate to wake you up to say good-bye.
But the dawn is breaking, it’s early morn, the taxi’s waiting He’s blowing his horn.
Already I’m so lonesome I could die.
So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you’ll wait for me, hold me like you’ll never let me go.
‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh, babe, I hate to go.”

Week 3|52 Life is like a song
I am a full time working woman, mommy to 2 toddler boys and have a husband with a substantial travel schedule. I have to remind myself every day that these little boys and all their excitement, loudness and energy are a blessing and that one day not too far away I will want all of this back. They are my heart and I adore them. We have been iced in for days and so we have been creative about how to keep ourselves busy while daddy is out of town again. I know I will miss the cuddles, the tears, the snuggles, the 100 mommies a minute and all the giggles.
You’re Gonna Miss This, Trace Adkins
You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t
gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

3/52 {Life Is Like A Song} This is my daughter, Paige, taken last night. Every time I listen to this song or watch the movie, I end up a blubbering mess.
Slipping Through My Fingers – Abba
Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning.
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile.
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness.
And I have to sit down for a while.
The feeling that I’m losing her forever.
And without really entering her world.
I’m glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl.
Slipping through my fingers all the time.
I try to capture every minute.
The feeling in it.
Slipping through my fingers all the time.
Do I really see what’s in her mind.
Each time I think I’m close to knowing.
She keeps on growing.
Slipping through my fingers all the time.
Sleep in our eyes, her and me at the breakfast table.
Barely awake, I let precious time go by.
Then when she’s gone, there’s that odd melancholy feeling.
And a sense of guilt I can’t deny.
What happened to the wonderful adventures?
The places I had planned for us to go.
(Slipping through my fingers all the time).
Well, some of that we did but most we didn’t.
And why, I just don’t know.

I still have to go back and edit my first 2 weeks but joining now with week 3
They didn’t have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough?”

3/52 Life is Like a Song
Sparkle by Phish
“Laugh and Laughing and Fall Apart”
My kids and I love having dance parties to Phish. There is just something about the lyrics that cracks them up. And reminds me of college. When I was young and had a life that didn’t end at 9pm.

Life is like a song
Baby Ballerina’s hiding somewhere in the corner
where the shadows wrap around her,
and the torches cannot find her.
She will stay there ’til the morning,
crawl behind us as we are yawning,
and she will leave the game to never be the same.

I had some other thoughts for this week, but this morning my littlest one asked me to come check him out as he was on top of the world! He was totally enthralled by all the snow, laughing, singing and jumping around…his special brand of crazy happy and pure joy wins it for me every time. xoIf you love somebody
Better tell them why they’re here ’cause
They just may run away from you
You’ll never know what went well
Then again it just depends on
How long of time is left for you
I’ve had the highest mountains
I’ve had the deepest rivers
You can have it all but not til you move it
Now take it in but don’t look down
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
Waiting on this for a while now
Paying my dues to the dirt
I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey
Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey
Take it with me if I can
Been dreaming of this since a child
I’m on top of the world
I’ve tried to cut these corners
Try to take the easy way out
I kept on falling short of something
I coulda gave up then but
Then again I couldn’t have ’cause
I’ve traveled all this way for something
Now take it in but don’t look down
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
Waiting on this for a while now
Paying my dues to the dirt
I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey
Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey
Take it with me if I can
Been dreaming of this since a child
I’m on top of the world
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
Waiting on this for a while now
Paying my dues to the dirt
I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey
Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey
Take it with me if I can
Been dreaming of this since a child
And I know it’s hard when you’re falling down
And it’s a long way up when you hit the ground
Get up now, get up, get up now
And I know it’s hard when you’re falling down
And it’s a long way up when you hit the ground
Get up now, get up, get up now
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
Waiting on this for a while now
Paying my dues to the dirt
I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey
Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey
Take it with me if I can
Been dreaming of this since a child
I’m on top of the world

3/52 {life if like a song}
“These are days you’ll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
will the whole world be warm as this
and as you feel it, you’ll know it’s true
that you are blessed and lucky
it’s true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you
These are days you’ll remember
When May is rushing over you with desire
to be part of the miracles you see in every hour
you’ll know it’s true, that you are blessed and lucky
it’s true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you
These are the days
that you might fill with laughter
until you break
These days you might feel a shaft of light
make its way across your face
and when you do
you’ll know how it was meant to be
see the signs and know their meaning
You’ll know how it was meant to be
hear the signs and
know they’re speaking to you
to you.” – 10,000 Maniacs (Natialie Merchant)

3/52 “Life is Like a Song”
“Grandpa
Tell me ’bout the good old days.
Sometimes it feels like
This world’s gone crazy.
Grandpa, take me back to yesterday,
Where the line between right and wrong
Didn’t seem so hazy.
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
Stand beside each other come what may
was a promise really something people kept,
Not just something they would say
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Whoa oh Grandpa,
Tell me ’bout the good old days.”
This is my father and my daughter.

3/52 {Life is like a song}
Oh darling don’t you ever grow up, don’t you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling don’t you ever grow up, don’t you ever grow up
It could stay this simple…
…Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother’s favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone
….Please try to never grow up
Don’t you ever grow up
Just never grow up

“Isn’t she lovely?
Isn’t she wonderful?
Isn’t she precious?
Less than one minute old.”
Submission #2

“She knows nothing at all about life, she knows everything about living.” Moth by moe.

Smiled with the risin’ sun
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Saying’, (“This is my message to you”)
Singing’ “Don’t worry ’bout a thing
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright.”
Singing’ “Don’t worry (don’t worry) ’bout a thing
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright!”
